Rogue comets

A rogue comet crosses the Alpha Verse along a published schedule of waypoints, each in orbit of a planet. It carries a finite stock of resources that every commander shares, so arrival timing and cargo capacity decide who collects the most. Whatever is left when it leaves its final waypoint leaves with it.

Mission Extract Resources
Fleet At least one Mining Vessel
Research Asteroid Mining
Comets at once 2

Finding a comet

The schedule is public: every waypoint appears on the Universe map as a known contact, with countdowns to its arrival and departure.

  • Map Select a waypoint to see the comet, its current waypoint and the ones still ahead.
  • Stock Live radar shows how much is left. Find resources lists a waypoint while the comet is there and inside your radar.
  • News The Universal Feed announces each arrival and departure.

Arrival window

A mission targets one waypoint. Mission Control compares the fleet's arrival with that waypoint's window before launch, and the launch is refused outside it.

  • Too early Launch later so the fleet arrives after the comet does.
  • Too late Choose faster spacecraft or a later waypoint.
  • Window 30 min to 2 days at each waypoint

Extraction

Mining Vessels collect a random mix of the comet's resources until their hold is full, the stock runs out, or the comet leaves.

  • Shared stock Every fleet draws from the same stock. What one commander collects, nobody else can.
  • Departure Extraction stops at the departure time. The fleet returns with what it collected.
  • Arriving late A fleet that arrives after the comet has left returns empty, and its report says why.
  • Leftover stock Travels on to the next waypoint about 10 minutes after the departure. After the final waypoint it is gone.

Supply per period

Comets add new supply on top of ordinary deposits, within a fixed budget.

  • Hydrogen 160,000 per 7 days
  • Carbon 60,000 per 7 days
  • Plutonium 4,800 per 7 days
